Extracting Text from your writing on iPhone/iPad

Modified on Mon, 15 Jun, 2020 at 9:36 AM

We are using a cutting edge algorithm so please note that this first version is far from perfect. It is designed for handwriting and while it does well with clean text and most printed text, the result for extracting text in cursive writing is not great at this time and this currently only supports English. The system is also using a machine learning algorithm, that can make sense of objects in images and will provide some contextual information about what it sees.

Here's how you can extract your written text:

  1. Tap the insert button next to the 'Add a task...' button
  2. You'll be presented with three options:

    • Take a photo

    • Select from Photo Library
    • Select a file on 'Browse for file' to find the file you want to attach.

  3. Select the file, and then select Open to add it to your task.

  4. You'll have the option to create a new task with the selected file as the attached file or Extract Writing from the selected file (this only works for image file types).
  5. Choose 'Extract Writing'

  6. Your image will be processed and the text will be extracted from the image and placed your Task Note, simply enter the Task Name or make changes to the extracted text within the notes section.

Note: This is currently in beta, and only supports English.
